Clarke, Arthur Hill (Trooper)
Description
Original diaries of Trooper Clarke, 4th (Queensland Imperial Bushmen) contingent. Includes transcript with introductory essay by R. Davies, and photograph. Diaries provide detailed descriptions of movements and actions, including heavy engagement at Rhenoster Kop and prolonged pursuit of De Wet's column into the Orange Free State. Diaries also mention his solicitude for his horse, and acts of indiscipline including the looting of a supply train prior to demobilisation.
