Collection related to the service of Corporal Trent Grall, 7th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (7RAR)
Members of the Assault Pioneer Platoon, Support Company, 7 Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (7RAR), about to leave the 1st Australian Task Force (ATF) base to go out on Operation Santa Fe. The soldiers are, left to right: Corporal Trent Grall (standing), Commander of the Platoon's 3 Section; Private (Pte) A H 'Shorty' Dwyer, (head visible in foreground), and Pte John Grelck. The soldiers are dressed in the new light weight jungle green uniforms and are wearing them for the first time on Operations. The uniform shirt was often referred to as a 'Pixie shirt'. Pte Grelck has on his back a pack from the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN). Australian soldiers favoured US and ARVN packs because they were smaller, lighter, and with a frame, easier to carry than the standard Australian issued Army pack.
