Description
Cairo, Egypt. C. 1943-06. A native gali-gali man (conjuror) entertaining a group at the Delta Barrage gardens. In the group are members of the crew of an RAF Halifax bomber which was one of a formation attacking a target in Italy in 1943-05 but was forced by engine failure to put down in rough seas in the Mediterranean. The crew then spent eleven days in a dinghy before being washed ashore on the North African coast. One of the crew was 16655 Sergeant C. D. Curnow of SA.
