Description
Depicts a young emaciated Somali girl, Harassin, standing with arms outstretched in an empty field of plant stalks from a harvested crop. Gittoes' noted of this work; 'Everywhere I go in Somali, there are empty fields with the yellow-gold cut stalks of some harvested crop - all that remains...I had decided to do some drawings. I indicated I would like her [Harassim] to pose for a drawing - she seemed to understand but when she went into a pose, it was with her arms out like a bird or christ on the cross - no matter how much I tried to get her to pose in a natural comfortable position - she would resume this bird like stance - so I drew and photographed her like this -'.
