Talismans
Description
Depicts an Australian peacekeeping soldier in uniform with a rifle resting on his lap. He is seated in front of a goldsmith's shop at Sisiphon, Cambodia, and holds a gold talisman of a Styer rifle. Standing to the right of him is an ex Khmer soldier, now a goldsmith, who has tattoos across his chest and on his shoulders. The tattoo on his right shoulder covers an old bullet wound. The Cambodian soldier on the left of the image is heavily tattooed on his chest . Gittoes' noted; 'Tattoos are magic protection against bullets and mines etc. Many are ancient symbols from Ankor Wot (sic)'.
