Description
The tail section of a barrage balloon on loan from the US 7th Air Force, which is about to go aloft from the 1st Australian Task Force (ATF) base. Loss of gas from the balloon reduced the rigidity of the tail fins before it affected any other part of the balloon. The Field Operational Research Section (FORS) attached a PRC25 radio communications set (not in view) to the balloon, with the aim of increasing the distance over which communications could be maintained with Special Air Services (SAS) units operating in the field.
