Evangelist Billy Graham visits ATFV DPR/TV/991
International evangelist Billy Graham this week made a whirlwind one hour visit to Australian troops of the 1st Australian Task Force at Nui Dat, South Vietnam. The visit was part of a Vietnam-wide tour Billy Graham is making under the sponsorship of President-elect Richard Nixon, a personal friend of the crusader. In his own words Billy Graham visited Nui Dat to meet Australian soldiers and to wish them a happy Christmas as he inteneded making a visit to Australia early in the New Year. Billy Graham was met at Kangaroo Helipad by Major Bill Hoffman and chaplains of various denominations. He was driven to meet the Deputy Commander of the Task Force, Colonel Don Dunstan, and then called upon sick and injured soldiers at 8th Field Ambulance. Here he autographed a copy of his book God is Peace for Trooper Neal Phillips, of Wembley Perth, WA, who brought the book with him when he came to Vietnam. He was later taken on a drive of the Task Force area, stopping several times to greet and talk with soldiers.
