Army opens School Library in Vietnam DPR/TV/1011
A Vietnamese High School library, sponsored from public subscription in Australia, was opened last week by the Commander, Australian Force Vietnam, Major-General A. L. MacDonald. The library is part of a two-room block including a science laboratory built at a cost of about $10,000 at the Chau Van Tiep High School at Baria, the Phuoc Tuy Province capital. The opening ceremony was attended by hundreds of students and local residents who heard Major-General MacDonald's address. After his address Major-General MacDonald and the Province Chief, Colonel Truoc, cut a ribbon at the entrance to the new block. Official guests and some of the school's 100 students then moved inside the building, where they inspected facilities and some of the stock of books which will be used in the library. Finance for the project was provided mainly by Australian-Vietnamese Civil Action Projects, a Queensland based committee. The library and science block is among 23 classrooms built for Vietnamese schools by Australian military civil air since June 1967.
