Description
The interior of the laboratory of the Australian Chemical Warfare Field and Experimental Section with, in the foreground, two members of the Australian Army Medical Women's Service (AAMWS) carrying out experimental work with test tubes and flasks. Identified far left is possibly Carmel Durning, and second from left, VF509189 Maud Gratia Murphy. Two unknown male members of the unit are working at the bench in the background. The unit, later known as the 1st Field Trials Company, Royal Australian Engineers (RAE), carried out experiments on the effects of mustard gas and other chemical warfare agents.
