Description

Studio portrait of 14555 Private (Pte) Herbert Granland, 46th Australian Infantry Battalion. A telephone mechanic prior to enlisting on 8 July 1915, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Miltiades (A28) on 1 August 1916. Pte Granlands two brothers, 4503 Private Alfred George Granland and 1411 Sergeant William Frederick Granland, enlisted shortly after him. Pte Granland was killed in action in Bullecourt on 11 April 1917. He was 23 years old.
