Description

Germany. 1943-07-31. Remscheid, south of the Ruhr, with a population of 107,000, is one of Germany's main manufacturing centres of machine and precision tools for which a special type of steel is used. On the night of 1943-07-30, RAF Bomber Command made a concentrated attack on Remscheid, and reconnaissance shows that considerable damage had been caused to steelworks and factories concerned with the manufacture of these machine tools. The main railway station had also been severely damaged, and there was considerable devastation to surrounding property.
