Description
Northern France, c. 1917. A rooster named "Jack" or "Jackie", the mascot of the 2nd Divisional Signals Company, 1st AIF, perched atop a neat stack of rifles. Members of the unit found "Jack" a better guard than a dog, as he attacked any strangers who entered the unit lines. The unit had brought the bird from Egypt in 1916 when it was still a chicken.
