Description
Northern France, c. 1916-12. A snow-covered mound of earth housing a relay post for despatch riders serving with the 1st AIF. The pipe sticking up from the mound may be a makeshift chimney for a stove set up inside the post. At left is a metal drum which may contain petrol for the despatch riders' motor cycles. Lying in the snow at right is a stretcher.
