Maffin Bay, Dutch New Guinea: provisional map
A single sheet from the 1:63 360 Dutch New Guinea topographical map series covering the northern coastal area around Maffin Bay and the town of Sarmi. Shows islands, reefs, jetties, populated places, roads and trails, bridges, dromes at Maffin and Sawar, the Tor and other rivers, wetland areas, vegetation and terrain features. Relief shown by contours, spot heights and ocean depths. "S145-E13845/15". Includes legend, index to sheets, and reliability diagram. Prepared under the direction of the Chief Engineer, GHQ, SWPA, by Base Map Plant, U.S. Army, June 1944.
This map was collected by Jacob Veurman during his time in Hollandia in New Guinea between 1945 to 1952 as part of the Agricultural extension service. The Agricultural extension service was set by the Department of Agriculture Stock and Fisheries to create a network of agricultural experiment stations, located at strategic positions in the country.
