Description
Binbrook, England, 1944. A right hand quarter rear view of `G for George', a Mk I Avro Lancaster bomber, which flew ninety operational missions over Germany and occupied Europe with No. 460 Squadron RAAF. This photograph was probably taken after 1944-05 when the aircraft was withdrawn from operational service as the guns have been removed from the turrets and covers placed over the tyres. The aircraft was eventually flown to Australia where it is today preserved in the collection of the Australian War Memorial.
