Lens, France, c. 1917. A scene of destruction in No Man's Land on a battlefield near the town in northwestern France. The dead bodies of soldiers lie in the mud beside water-filled shell holes and tree stumps that mark the remains of an orchard. In the foreground lies a helmet which still covers the head of its dead owner. This is a stereo image. One half of the image is held at P01863.023.
