Description
Calvi, Corsica, France. c. 1944-07. The nose section of a Consolidated Liberator bomber of the United States Army Air Force (USAAF). The aircraft bears the name "Rattlesnake Hank" and carries an illustration of a rattlesnake entwined around a bomb. Also depicted is the figure of a snarling panther and rows of bombs recording the number of bombing raids the aircraft has undertaken. Immediately below the cockpit is the name "Fay" and three swastikas indicating the number of German aircraft the Liberator had shot down or helped to shoot down. (Donor M. Johnson)
