Description

With its engine cowling removed, Supermarine Spitfire Mk VIII MT687 of No. 451 Squadron RAAF stands in front of a hangar at Cuers airfield, while its engine undergoes a test run. The aircraft's ailerons have been tilted downward as far as possible and a 44-gallon drum tied on each side of its fuselage at the back to prevent the aircraft's tail from lifting and its nose hitting the ground during the test.
