Description
Johnston Hoek, Transvaal, South Africa, 1902-01. General Sir Hubert Plumer (? 4th from left) and Colonel Pulteney (? 5th from left) with several other soldiers at a rocky vantage point in the countryside. The two soldiers at right may be members of the 5th Contingent of the Victorian Mounted Rifles to the Boer War. The soldier at extreme right is using a pair of binoculars to scan the countryside, while the man next to him has a tripod for mounting a telescope or signalling equipment.
