C. 1944-04-18. 411723 Flying Officer James Jeffery Allen of Killara, NSW, leaving the palace with his wife and five months old baby Josephine, after receiving the DFC from King George VI at an investiture at Buckingham Palace. Promoted to Flight Lieutenant, Allen was accidentally killed in India on 15 June 1945 flying with 96 Squadron RAF.
