Collection relating to the Operation Bel Isi service of Andrew Rice, a civilian employee of the Australian Department of Defence, Truce Monitoring Group (TMG), Bougainville, 1998.
Description
Red River bridge, vicinity Nupatoro, north of Wakunai, East Coast Bougainville. TMG Lifeskills Patrol assisting a local vehicle that had got stuck on a Baileys Bridge across the Red River. During the Crisis the BRA reportedly removed the wooden decking in order to slow the progress of vehicles over the bridge. The winching operation took several hours and was absolutely vital to allow other vehicles to traverse the main north-south road on the East Coast.
