Description
South China Sea. 1969-06-03. Extensively damaged forward end of the American Allen M Sumner class destroyer USS Frank E Evans after coming into collision with the Australian aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne in the early hours of the morning. The destroyer is seen drifting down the starboard side of HMAS Melbourne. The force of the collision is clearly evident in that the forward davit is missing and what is left of the ship's boat hangs from the remaining davit on the starboard side.
