Normandy, France. C. 1944-08. A makeshift but effective method of keeping an RAF Spitfire airstrip level is this roller borrowed from a French farmer and weighted with two 500 lb bombs and attached to a jeep driven by pilots of an Australian squadron. Sitting on the roller to steady the bombs is Pilot Officer J. W. Scott, RAAF, of Nanango, Qld. Driving the jeep is Flying Officer D. Osborne, RAF, and with him is Pilot Officer Rice, RAAF, of Armidale, NSW.
