France. C. 1944-08. Flight Sergeant (F Sgt) Fred Wood from Adelaide, SA, fraternises with the Chief Gendarme in a Normandy village. F Sgt Wood is an RAAF fitter in charge of the maintenance of a complete Spitfire squadron. He was the first South Australian member of ground crew to land in France and has been mentioned in despatches.
