Description
Airborne on return to England from France. C. 1944-08. Lancaster aircraft of RAF Bomber Command winging their way across a sunset sky after an attack on German targets in the Pas de Calais, Northern France. The camera was unable to show the might of Bomber Command when night after night aircraft sped across the Channel to attack enemy targets. This impressive view, obtained now heavy attacks are launched in daylight, illustrates the phrase "Our bombers were out in great strength".
