Kure, Japan. 1946. Passengers ride on the outside of a crowded tram. All forms of transport had suffered severe damage during the allied bombing raids and the surviving vehicles were often very crowded. The war- induced disregard for danger was still very apparent in 1946 with people regularly riding on the outside of trams and trains.
