Description
Den Helder, Holland. C. 1944-09. In one of the most daring strikes during the war in the teeth of the enemy's powerful shore defences, a strong force of Beaufighter bomber aircraft made up from strike wings of the RAAF, Royal New Zealand Air Force and Royal Air Force (RAF) operating under RAF Coastal Command attacked an enemy convoy in the narrow anchorage of Den Helder. In the face of intense flak from coastal batteries of Texel the Beaufighters severely damaged a half completed destroyer and left five other ships on fire.
