Kiarivu, New Guinea. 1945-08-06. Natives erecting a mortar observation post in a high but bare tree being climbed with the aid of a bamboo ladder. The natives were accompanying troops from the 2/7th Australian Infantry Battalion, AIF, who were engaged on a six day patrol into Japanese held territory.
