Ocean Island, South Pacific. 1945-10-02. Following the surrender of the Japanese Forces the Island was occupied by members of the 31/51 Australian Infantry Battalion, Australian Military Forces, and the Japanese were evacuated to Torokina, Bougainville. This photograph shows a barge containing an advance party of Japanese leaving Ocean Island boat harbour to board the transport ship SS River Burdekin for the trip to Torokina.
