Collection relating to the Second World War service of VX7030 Major John Eric Mounsey Hall, 2/8 Australian Infantry Battalion, 1941-42.
Wallet 1 of 1 - consists of 2 folders.
Folder 1 contains a 67 page handwritten memoir titled "An account of my adventures immediately before and during the battle of Crete" describing actions and living conditions for members of 2/8 Australian Infantry Battalion from 14 July 1941 to 10 March 1942 around Suda Bay and Canea, Crete. Memoir commences with a description of the sinking of the Dutch transport Costa Rica as she evacuated troops from Kalamata, Greece, in April 1941 and ends with troops awaiting evacuation from Crete.
Folder 2 contains an annotated map of Greece and Crete showing routes taken north and south and locations of action and bombing. Also includes several loose pages from a diary [undated].
