MA Thesis "No Half-Hearted Soldiers: the Japanese Army's experience of defeat in the South West Pacific, 1942-1945" examining the experience of Japanese soldiers of lower ranks to provide an understanding of the actions of men who have often been seen as 'incomprehensible fanatics' dying vaingloriously for their Emperor. Based primarily upon diaries, notebooks, letters and Allied interrogation reports of the Army's enlisted men, this work provides an insight into the soldier's military service in the South West Pacific.
