Description
Shokao Province, China. 1942. Portrait of Major-General Goro Mano, commander of 21MB North China and later Lieutenant-General commanding 41 Division, Imperial Japanese Army based at Utunomiya, near Tokyo, Japan. He later served in the Philippines, Guadalcanal and New Guinea where he surrended at Wewak in 1946-10. He died in 1957 of natural causes, in Japan. Note in his left hand his samurai sword which was manufactured c.1450 and is now in the collection of the Australian War Memorial. (Donor H. Moro)
