Two aircraft from this squadron flew on Operation River, conducted between May and July 1944. The two aircraft operated from Brahmaputra River to Lake Indawgi in Burma to bring out wounded members of the Chindit Raiders, a guerilla group using long-range penetration and independent operation behind the enemy lines in Burma, conceived of by Major General Orde Wingate and led by him until his death in a plane crash on 25 March 1944. The group continued to operate successfully but with high numbers of casualties.
