414219 Wing Commander (Wing Cdr) William Alexander Forbes of Bundaberg Qld, leaving Buckingham Palace with Lady Moynihan, after receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC). Wing Cdr Forbes won his DFC as a Flight Lieutenant in December 1943, following an attack on Peenemunde, the town where German scientists planned the flying bomb. Forbes and two of his (Lancaster) crew were lost on bombing operations with No. 463 Squadron on 21 February 1945 over Mehringen, North-West Germany. The five remaining crew were all taken prisoner.
