Diary kept by Brownlow while on active service with the NSW contingent to the Sudan, describes departure, sea voyage; establishment of camps and Zeriba at Suakin, Tamai, Handub, Otao; marches and drill; engagements with dervishes; good morale of the contingent; escorting food convoys; comments on natives and British units. Includes sketches of ships, camps, arms, country side. Also a biography covering later naval service.
