Portrait of 4388 Private (Pte) William George Shaw, of Gingin, WA, an Aboriginal serviceman who enlisted in the AIF on 17 May 1917. Pte Shaw was sent to Melbourne for training where he joined the 12th Reinforcements to the 2nd Pioneer Battalion before embarking on 30 October 1917 aboard HMAT Aeneas. Pte Shaw served in France with the 2nd Pioneers, returning to Australia on 19 October 1918. He was discharged on 2 January 1919.
