Description
Ulm, Germany. C. 1944-12. Reconnaissance photographs show that considerable damage was caused to the city of Ulm on the north bank of the River Danube, after RAF Bomber Command's attack on the night of 1944-12-17/18. Ulm has great importance as an administrative and communications centre for southern Germany, and is the site of a number of war production factories. The Cathedral, reputed to have the tallest spire in Germany (centre left) does not appear to be directly hit, although many surrounding buildings are completely gutted.
