Collection relating to the Second World War service of 432530 Flight Lieutenant Brian John Mattingley, 460 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force, Australia and England, 1943-1945.

Wallet 1 of 1 – Contains two folders of material relating to the service of Flight Lieutenant Brian John Mattingley.

Folder 1 of 2 consists of one log book of Flight Lieutenant Mattingley, containing entries dated between June 1943 and September 1945 [including leather cover]. This log book was used by Flight Lieutenant Mattingley during his initial training in South Australia and Victoria, operational training in England, and service with 460 Squadron in England. The log book entries record details such as dates and times of flights, aircraft types and numbers, pilots, and purposes of flights. Some of the recorded purposes of flights include navigation training, bombing and gunnery training, advanced flying training, operational training, aircraft conversion, bombing operations over Germany, and aircraft ferrying. This log book also includes certificates for courses completed by Flight Lieutenant Mattingley.

Folder 2 of 2 consists of two pages of navigation notes made by Flight Lieutenant Mattingley during his service with 460 Squadron, between August 1944 and March 1945. The first page is dated 2 January 1945, and relates to an operational flight targeting Nuremberg, Germany. The second page is undated.
