Description

A German Narvik class destroyer Z-33 (foreground) and an attendant tug (background, left), under attack from Beaufighter aircraft of the Dallachy Wing, RAF Coastal Command. Led by Wing Commander Colin Milson, RAAF, the strike force (including eleven Beaufighters from 455 Squadron (Sqn), RAAF), attacked eleven enemy ships which were anchored close to shore in the Forde Fjord. During the strike, the Beaufighters were intercepted and attacked by a Sqn of German Focke-Wulf 190s from Jagdgeschwader 5. This, combined with accurate fire from the ship's and shore batteries resulted in the loss of nine of the Wing's Beaufighters.
