Bayon Villers
Description
Ivan Clear Stretton (31903) served as a Gunner in the 13th Australia Artillery Brigade during the First World War. Between 1917 and 1918 he served in France and Belgium in the Ypres and Somme regions. During the war he illustrated a series of postcards that depicted his journey to Europe on board the RMS Osterley, which travelled past South Africa and Sierra Leone on its way to England. He also drew scenes of ruined battlefields on the Western Front.
Bayonvillers is a commune in the Somme department in Hauts-de-France.
