Horten, Norway. C. 1945-03. Following an attack on 1945-02-24 by a force of Lancaster bomber aircraft on the Karljohans Vern shipbuilding yard at Horten there was very heavy damage to the whole of the dockyard area. Engine shops, casting shops, boiler factory buildings, office building, torpedo factory buildings have either been destroyed or gutted by fire. The ship plates building is partly collapsed and is heavily damaged throughout. Approximately two thirds of a large covered slipway are wrecked and one third of another destroyed. Thirteen other small and medium sized buildings have been severely damaged or destroyed. The quay space north of the dry docks is obliterated, and small vessels can be seen ashore among the debris.
