Description
Pola, Italy. C. 1945-04. When South African Air Force Marauder aircraft of the Balkan Air Force led by Captain Basil Benson of Van Rhynsdorp, Western Province, bombed a coaling wharf and adjacent railway lines on the Aras Channel, south east of Pola on the Istrian Peninsula, they scored several hits in the target area, and one on the railway line serving the wharf. A further result was that the wreck of the "Italia", attacked by Balkan Air Force aircraft some months ago, was seen to be listing further to port, with her deck awash.
