Description
Letter written by Maurice Lewis, an Australian serving aboard HMS Broke, vividly describing the evacuations of allied troops and civilians from St Valery and Brest, France, and demolition of a sinking ship and demolition work carried out in Brest. Describes air attacks, casualties, attitude of French civilians and Polish brigade fighting the rearguard at Brest, anti-submarine patrols, Atlantic patrolling and rescue and convoy escort. It contains a vivid description of the rescue of civilians from a burning convoy vessel probably HMS Comorin.
