Description
Sister Florence Narrelle Jessie Hobbes (standing in the back row, 3 from the left) with a group of patients. Sister Hobbes embarked from Sydney on 20 February 1915, enlisting in Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve (QAIMNSR). Her service included nursing casualties from the Gallipoli campaign and across a variety of locations in Italy, Iraq and India. Sister Hobbes fell sick in June 1917, suffering from advanced liver cancer. Travelling home to Australia with her sister, Sister Hobbes died only four days out from Fremantle, on 10 May 1918. She was 39 years old.
