Photo postcard sent to Annie Rose Scott Cowen, from Sister Florence Narrelle Jessie Hobbes. On the reverse of the image, a letter recounts her illness and being off duty since 3rd of June (1917). Sister Hobbes thanks Annie for her letter, includes a prayer to Allah and her best wishes for the Christmas season.
Sister Hobbes embarked from Sydney on 20 February 1915, enlisting in Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve (QAIMNSR). Her service included nursing casualties from the Gallipoli campaign and across a variety of locations in Italy, Iraq and India. Sister Hobbes fell sick in June 1917, suffering from advanced liver cancer. Travelling home to Australia with her sister, Sister Hobbes died on 10 May 1918, only four days out from Fremantle. She was 39 years old.
