Collection relating to the Second World War service of 6756 Sergeant Henry Whitfield Luker, 83 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force, England, 1943.

Wallet 1 of 1 – Consists of two telegrams and one letter relating to Sergeant Henry Whitfield Luker. The first telegram, was sent by the Adjutant of 83 Squadron to Sergeant Luker’s uncle, Mr C Luker, on 18 June 1943. This telegram informs Mr Luker that his nephew had lost his life in an aircraft accident and offers sympathy. The second telegram was sent by the Officer in Command of 83 Squadron to Mr Luker on 19 June 1943. This telegram relates to the arrangements for Sergeant Luker’s funeral. The letter, dated 31 August 1943, was sent by a representative of the Royal Australian Air Force to Sergeant Luker’s brother, 8769 Leading Aircraftman Richard Woodward Luker. This letter relates to the arrangements for personal belongings of Sergeant Luker, and includes an inventory.

History / Summary

Sergeant Henry Whitfield Luker enlisted to the Royal Australian Air Force on 8 January 1940. After undergoing training in Australia and England, he served as a flight engineer with 467 Squadron and 83 Squadron in England. Sergeant Luker was killed in an aircraft accident in England on 18 June 1943. He is buried at Henley-on-Thames Cemetery, Oxfordshire, England.
