Description

Graves of Australians killed in 1900 during the defence of Elands River against the Boers. The large headstone bearing four names of men of the NSW Citizens Bushmen) is now displayed in the Australian War Memorial. The names are inscribed: SSM Mitchell [Squadron Sergeant Major James Mitchell]; Trooper (Tpr) Duff [34 Trooper James Daniel Duff]; Trooper Walker [75 Tpr James Edwin Walker] and Trooper Warddell (sic) [327 Tpr John Waddell]. The small headstone bears the following inscription "In memory of Corpl Norton [583 Corporal Charles William Norton, Third Victorian Bushmens Contingent], killed in action 4th August 1900".
