Description

Magdeburg, Germany. C. 1945-07. Beside the wrecked factories of the Junkers Aero Engine Works in the German industrial town of Magdeburg this four metre thick concrete dome covered an air raid shelter. Made of concrete two metres thick and covered by stones one and a half metres deep the shelter stood up to the bombing by aircraft of RAF Bomber Command which hit the Junkers Engine Works. 12,000 people were employed at the works.
