Description
Europe. C. 1945-05. RAF Mitchell medium bomber "P" for Peter, which has completed its 100th operational flight with 2nd Tactical Air Force, with the captain, Flying Officer (FO) Colin Mason of Perth, WA, in the cockpit. FO Mason has flown forty five sorties in Mitchell aircraft. He joined the RAAF in 1940, and while waiting for his pilot's course, qualified as a physical training instructor. He got his wings in 1943 and has been operating with a medium bomber squadron on the Continent. His crew, standing on the ground, consist of (left to right) a New Zealand navigator, two gunners, both from Manchester, and a Scottish radar operator.
