Description

Grove, Denmark. C. 1945-08. From this War Room the whole of the German Fighter Command in Denmark was controlled. It is situated close to Grove airfield, former German night fighter interceptor station in the middle of Jutland. Beams of light projected on the giant map indicated the positions of aircraft, and sixty controllers worked at the benches at the same time. Here the scene is re-enacted as a Luftwaffe Oberst - equivalent to an RAF Group Captain - shows RAF Disarmament Wing officers the secrets of the main operational control room. A complete exercise was carried out, with RAF observers at this control, and manning the German radar devices. Heavy bombers from England flew over on dummy raids during a ten-day exercise known as "Post Mortem". This operation was carried out to test the efficiency of German methods and devices.
